Reel Thing Wednesdays represent a lively midweek reeling night in Chelsea - with clear guidance, great music, plenty of space, and a welcoming atmosphere. The evenings are led by John Carver (@JohnTheCaller) of www.reeling.com

About the Evenings

Reel Thing Wednesdays are a midweek Scottish reeling event held in London, designed specifically for people who already have some experience of reeling. We focus on a high-quality, low-friction dancing environment with:

  • No door queues: Smooth entry and flow.

  • Space to dance: No overcrowding so you have space to dance properly.

  • Clear calling & animations: Confident, efficient calling and on screen animations showing the next dance.

  • A relaxed vibe: Wine and snacks are included.

(Please note: These evenings are not for complete beginners)

The Format

  • 7.00pm: Doors open, grab a drink and settle in

  • 7.30pm: Dancing begins

  • 8.45pm: Short break for snacks

  • 10.00pm: Carriages

The Dances

We draw from a core set of popular mainstream reels, which usually include:

Dashing White Sergeant, Eightsome/Foursome, Hamilton House, Duke of Perth, Inverness Country Dance, Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh, Mairi's Wedding, Reel of 51st, Machine without Horses, and Postie's Jig.
